Bringing Clay to Life

There is something about the strength and beauty of clay that makes it the perfect medium for telling your story.

Artist Jeffrey Alltmont enjoys every step of the creative process:

Listening and Researching

Jeffrey Alltmont is able to successfully capture and frame an intimate glimpse into a life because he is a great listener. Instead of a solitary work of clay, he creates an entire scene, one that is filled with intricate details.

After meeting with you, Jeffrey begins his creative process. First he will review the photographs or materials you have provided and then doing some research of his own. His goal is to capture the essence of the person or event and to inspire those who view the final product to look at every fine detail.

Designing

When it comes to creating intricate works of clay, Jeffrey has mastered the patience it takes to achieve perfection.

Before creating the shadowbox scene, he maps out the placement of each item to draw in the eye of the viewer.

Before starting a caricature, he may look through dozens of images at various angles so that he will be able to capture an individual or pet’s personality. It’s important to remember that caricatures are not portraits; they are likenesses meant to capture someone’s spirit and to amuse.

Each shadowbox contains hundreds of tiny pieces deliberately placed to orchestrate the final scene.

Detailing

When capturing the essence of an individual or event, every detail matters. From imitating an article of clothing to getting the details of building composition correct, including perspective, composition and scale.

While, he has an intense pride in his craft, Jeffrey also shows his sense of humor. For example, there is often an “inside joke” between Jeffery and his clients. This could be a small detail such as an individual’s favorite coffee mug or a photograph in a frame that may tell their story within their story.
